AFTRS & EDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY LOCATIONS INTENSIVE - MARCH
In partnership with the Edith Cowan University and the Australian Location Managers Guild, the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) is set to deliver the first run of Locations Department Intensive courses in Perth, Western Australia this March.
Students will explore locations management for film and television with this-hands on, five-day intensive and will learn the fundamentals from scouting and securing locations to ensuring on-set safety and management logistics. The course has been developed by location managers Luke Torrevillas and Drew Rhodes and will be taught under the guidance of Elizabeth Sarsfield and local industry experts Claire Burton and Rachael Hawkins. Students that complete the course will gain a 6-month student apprentice membership with the Australian Location Managers Guild.

LOCATION MANAGER CLAIRE BURTON:
Claire has devoted herself to the world of film and television for over 20 years. After cutting her teeth as a Producer Manager, she moved to Location Management in the early 2000s. As she hated being stuck behind a desk, Claire found the variety of being on the road, scouting and negotiating locations as a profession, incredibly rewarding (and challenging!).
Claire’s filmography includes feature films Breath, Son of a Gun, A Few Less Men and Below. TV credits include The Twelve, Upright (Season 1), The Wilds (Series 2), The Heights (Series 1), Lift and KGB. In 2022 she Location Managed the international advertising campaign "Walking on a Dream" for Tourism Western Australia, which was featured on billboards around the world including Piccadilly Circus and Times Square.
LOCATIONS ON SET EXPERT & MANAGER, RACHAEL HAWKINS:
Rachael predominantly worked in the world of television commercials, regularly providing scouting and location consultation for Screenwest, as well as footloose projects searching for the best place to base their films. She is highly experienced as an On-Set Manager, Coordinator and Manager, with recent longform credits such as drama series The Twelve and feature film Overture, directed by Bruce Beresford.
